Garden umbrellas

”I stuck the beach umbrella so well that before I pull it out I’d have to yell ‘Excalibur!’” (@ilmarziano1 tweet)
Together with the deck chair, the beach umbrella is the image of summer itself!. From the beach to the garden, by the pool or on the terrace, the umbrella offers some protection from sunrays especially during the hottest hours of the day. It can also be used to shade a dining area or to screen a window from excessive sun irradiation. How to choose the right one?
First, you need to know what you are going to do with it. If you’re looking for one which is easy to move around, to open and close you have to go for the central pole model. It’s not too big and it is usually made of light materials such as aluminium. To shade permanently large areas the offset garden umbrellas are the best solution because they move structure’s encumbrance to a side. This kind of structure needs to be fastened to the ground to avoid dangerous capsizing due to wind or structure collapse. The laying surface should be levelled, stable and the ground should be compact. The classic central pole garden umbrellas are the right ones to be placed into holed tables or easy to move around the beach or the pool. Among the most interesting accessories, there are water atomizers to hang on the structure, and the lamps to place around the pole or along the arms that keep the fabric extended. For example, the garden umbrellas with built-in lights are just right for dinner in the garden. The hi-tech models are beautiful for parks. They come with double fabric and recessed light sources.

What about the materials? Considering their outdoor use, you better choose weather and cold temperatures resistant materials if we’re talking about fixed structures. Wooden garden umbrellas are made of sturdy resistant materials such as iroko or teak. Wooden structures are beautiful and durable: they can be matched either with classic or contemporary furniture. Metal structure garden umbrellas are solid and very resistant. Plastic ones, instead, even if light and convenient in their beach version, aren’t that durable. The shading fabric is usually made of natural fibers such as cotton or linen, because they’re breathable, or it can be in synthetic technical fabrics which are more tear resistant and waterproof. ...
